Mike Davidson of Mike Industries has been working on a project. One that allows designers to rid themselves of lack of rich typography when dealing with browsers. He calls it sIFR, for Inman Flash Replacement. Don’t ask what the ’s’ is for, because I have no idea. My only guess is scalable.
In working through sIFR, I began to think of ways browser manufacturers could quickly implement anti-aliased custom typography. The only possible answer I could think of was licensing Flash?s rendering engine.
Basically, it allows you to use any font you could ever want, on your website, by harnessing the power of flash. Being that it is completely new, the only tags you can have this attributed to are H1, H2, and Div. But with as fast as it has taken off since its release, this could easily be the next big craze among designers.
